Litery M.I.A. to skrót od określenia Missing In Action, co znaczy po angielsku zaginiony w boju. Amerykanie mają zwyczaj oznaczać tym skrótem samoloty, które nie powróciły z akcji bojowej.

Pod nazwą Aircraft M.I.A. Project kryje się nieformalna grupa badaczy, którzy od lat zbierają informacje o samolotach United States Army Air Force, które podczas ostatniej wojny rozbiły się lub przymusowo lądowały na terenie Polski. Członkowie Projektu pochodzą z różnych stron kraju, lecz łączy ich chęć wyjaśnienia tajemnic sprzed ponad 50 lat.

Głównym celem Projektu jest stworzenie pełnej listy takich samolotów. Do tej pory udało się ustalić miejsca upadku lub lądowania ponad stu Latających Fortec, Liberatorów, Mustangów i Lightningów.

Członkowie Projektu wytrwale poszukują relacji świadków tych wydarzeń oraz wszelkich dokumentów i zdjęć, które ich dotyczą. Są też autorami wielu opracowań na ten temat, opublikowanych w prasie codziennej, różnych czasopismach i wydawnictwach nieperiodycznych (wykaz tych publikacji znajdziesz tutaj).

M.I.A. stand for Missing In Action. These letters describe the USAAF aircraft that failed to return from the mission and their whereabouts are not known until now.

Aircraft M.I.A. Project (AMIAP) is a group of researchers who collect information on USAAF aircraft that crashed or landed in Polish territory during the WWII (see map).

The main AMIAP objective is to create a complete list of such aircraft.

The members of this group come from all over Poland but they are united by their dedication to solving 50+ years old mysteries. Until now we have succeeded to identify locations of air crashes and landings of over a hundred B-17 Flying Fortresses, B-24 Liberators, P-51 Mustangs and P-38 Lightnings.

We are promoting our interest and spreading knowledge about the USAAF air offensive in Europe through articles in the daily press and magazines in Poland. We hope to publish the results of our research in the form of a book.

We are looking for participants' and witnesses' accounts of these crashes and landings and for any documents and photographs that are related to these events.
